Where Conventional Business Wisdom Is De-Mythified

Most business advice is recycled nonsense that looks good on paper but fails spectacularly in practice. After three decades in the trenches—from corporate leadership to entrepreneurial ventures across four countries—Jay has developed a finely-tuned bullshit detector and the scars to prove it.

Business Heretic exists for entrepreneurs who suspect there’s a better way forward than the same tired platitudes being peddled by business gurus who’ve never built anything beyond their personal brands.

We don’t do comfortable myths or sugar-coated reality. We challenge assumptions, question sacred cows, and offer contrarian strategies that actually work.

If you’re satisfied with conventional thinking, this isn’t for you. But if you’re tired of the disconnect between business theory and practice—if you value evidence over opinion and results over popularity—welcome home, heretic.

The most dangerous phrase in business is “that’s how we’ve always done it.”

Heretic-in-Chief

Jasjit (Jay) Gill is the founder and solo provocateur behind Business Heretic.

After over three decades of witnessing the gap between business theory and practice—as a Barrister-at-Law (UK), corporate finance specialist, de facto Managing Director of a Hong Kong-listed energy company, and founder of multiple businesses across four countries—Jay developed an allergy to conventional wisdom.

He’s launched everything from natural skincare products to oil filtration systems, led international acquisitions, and advised countless businesses on legal and strategic matters. He’s experienced both spectacular successes and instructive failures—and learned that the standard playbook rarely tells the full story.

Jay combines analytical rigor (with a joint degree in Economics and Law) with battle-tested experience to cut through the noise and challenge business orthodoxy. He’s not another conventional echo in the chamber of recycled business advice.

When Jay isn’t dismantling sacred business cows, you might find him reading voraciously, or formulating his next contrarian thesis.

Nothing on BusinessHeretic.com constitutes financial, legal, or business advice. All content—articles, comments, recommendations, frameworks, analyses etc — represents the opinions and perspectives of the site owner and contributors, not personalized counsel, advice or recommendations for your specific situation. Let’s be clear: we’re not suggesting you discard all conventional business wisdom. Many traditional approaches work perfectly well in certain contexts.

Our purpose is to challenge assumptions, question sacred cows that do not work universally. We seek to illuminate alternatives that the business establishment often ignores or dismisses. For your particular circumstances, a contrarian approach might be exactly what you need — or it might not. If conventional methods have left you staring at a dead end, consider our heretical alternatives before throwing in the towel. Think of them as your business Hail Mary when the conventional playbook has failed.

BusinessHeretic exists to provoke thought, not provide solutions. We can’t tell you what’s right for your specific situation – we are not aware of your specific circumstances.  For your particular solutions, you will need to engage with your professional business, financial or legal advisor to work out your best way forward. At the end of the day, it’s your business — your decision.
